On Site Manufacturing's PEACH supports first ever NLE 2011 Simulated Earthquake Drill
Indiana Dept of Homeland Security requested the PEACH (a rapid deployment shelter system with integral electric power, air-conditioning, heating) be deployed to support the first ever National Level Exercise designed around a 7.7 mag earthquake.
AUSTIN, IN, June 09, 2011 /Power and Energy PR News/ -- Indiana Department of Homeland Security requested the PEACH (a rapid deployment shelter system with integral electric power, air-conditioning and heating) to be deployed to support the first ever National Level Exercise to be designed around a 7.7 magnitude earthquake. This exercise was held in North Vernon, IN at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center (MUTC) facility and included thousands of local and state emergency responders from eight states, as well as numerous federal officials in Washington D.C. and the White House.
The National Level Exercise tested many of the core capabilities that comprise Indiana's ability to effectively and efficiently respond to and recover from a catastrophic earthquake. They included: communications, state emergency operations center management, citizen evacuation and shelter-in-place plans, mass care (feeding, sheltering, etc), critical resource logistics and distribution, public information and warning, ability to handle overwhelming need for medical care, and long-term recovery.
The PEACH was designed for all of the support functions that were being tested using its network of interconnectable insulated rapid deployment shelters. One differentiating feature of the PEACH from other similar systems is that all the components are centralized and controlled from one station for ease of operation. Another key feature is unlike conventional DRASH units the PEACH supports other structures as well whether temporary or traditional brick and mortar. This was demonstrated to the eight member states of CUSEC - Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee when the Command Post's emergency generator was turned off to simulate a failure. The PEACH , having auxiliary power supply capabilities, was simply able to attach another power distribution box, and not only continue to power its two shelters, but to the Command Post as well.
Like in a real emergency you can not control the weather and the Midwest has seen its share of unpredictable weather patterns. During the exercise, they were hit with an unprecedented snap of cold weather and one of the two PEACH shelters was converted in a 25-man bunkroom because of its ability to maintain a constant temperature in extreme environmental conditions.
